Montgomery- At a series of press conferences on Thursday, the National Federation of Independent Businesses announced their endorsement for Gov. Bob Riley in the 2006 General Election. In addition Chambers of Commerce from across the state also expressed their support of Gov. Riley’s Small Business Initiatives that he has outlined in his Plan 2010. Story

During a fundraiser that has been called one of the largest in Alabama's history, President George W. Bush called for Alabamians to reelect Bob Riley, who the president called "one of the nation's finest governors."
President Bush went on to praise Alabama's economy, saying that "Riley knows what he is doing when it comes to this economy," pointing to Alabama's historically low unemployment.
The president also called Gov. Riley "an education innovator" and added that "he refuses to accept the status quo." Bush also said, "Alabama has one of the most innovative programs in the United States of America when it comes to making sure every single child gets an education."

Huntsville – Wrapping up a three-day tour of the state during which he detailed the items in his Plan 2010 campaign platform, Gov. Bob Riley on Thursday unveiled initiatives that will continue to make state government more open and accountable, increase public safety and improve the quality of life for all Alabamians.
The agenda items, which join comprehensive plans for education and economic improvement announced earlier this week, include a Safe Roads Initiative, a plan to combat illegal immigration, citizen protections from eminent domain and improvements in human resource programs, to name a few.

Alabama has been named “State of the Year” by Southern Business and Development magazine for the fourth year in a row, Governor Bob Riley announced today in a series of news conferences across the state. The trade journal, which covers the economic development activities of 17 southern and border states, bases the award each year on the number of new job announcements in each state. This is the first time in the magazine’s history that a state has won the title for four consecutive years. Story

Major industry announcements during the past year that are expected to create 5,400 new jobs have earned Alabama the nation’s top “Golden Shovel” award from a major economic development magazine.
The results of this development include the addition of almost 115,000 jobs since January 2003, a historically low unemployment rate of 3.6 percent, and more than 1,500 new and expanding industries in the state during the past 40 months.
