Talladega's Daily Home Endorses Riley

October 23, 2006

State's 'tipping point' is Gov. Riley

10-22-2006

EDITOR’S NOTE: Beginning today, The Daily Home will be endorsing candidates for statewide office and Congress, starting with the governor. They will run every day through Sunday. Endorsements are not meant to tell voters how to vote, they are simply recommendations by the newspaper based on interviews with the candidates and other research. The important point to remember is to cast your ballot on election day to make your own voice be heard. We encourage all voters to exercise their right and vote on Nov. 7.

Governor Bob Riley, the Republican incumbent, likes to call this time in Alabama the ‘tipping point’ as he stumps around the state touting his record to stay in office four more years.

We would have to agree. This is a time when Alabama has two distinct choices on where it heads from here, and we believe that in order to keep this state moving forward as it has in the last four years, Riley deserves four more.

Economic development has flourished. Accountability has returned to the governor’s office. Sound budgeting decisions have been made. Alabama’s image has improved. And Riley is the common denominator in all of those.

In another time and place, perhaps Democratic challenger and Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley would have made a good governor. But it is not another time nor is it another place in this state’s history, and Riley’s tipping point for progress is Alabama’s tipping point for a better future.

The choice on Nov. 7 is Bob Riley for governor. He not only deserves a second term, he has earned another four years to continue moving Alabama in the right direction.
