Plan 2010: Our Vision of Alabama

Major Papers Endorse Riley

October 31, 2006

Alabama’s four major newspapers on Sunday endorsed Governor Bob Riley for a second term, pointing to his stellar record during his first term and bold plan for a second term.

The Huntsville Times, Birmingham News, Montgomery Advertiser, and Mobile Press-Register all published editorials stating Governor Riley deserves another term as governor.

The Mobile Press-Register Editorial Board wrote, “Voters don’t need Ronald Reagan to know the answer to the question of whether Alabama is better off now than it was four years ago.  The answer is yes.  Gov. Bob Riley has superbly demonstrated that he deserves re-election to a second term.”

In their endorsement, the Huntsville Times also praised the Governor’s record, saying, “Riley’s record is outstanding.  It’s not just that he deserves a second term in office.  It’s that the state’s future is likely to be brighter still if he is re-elected.”

The Birmingham News drew a sharp contrast between Gov. Riley’s vision and his opponent’s.  They wrote, “Alabama’s prospects for further progress are so much better in a second Riley term than they would be with Baxley, who hasn’t come close to offering voters a good reason to switch.  We enthusiastically recommend Bob Riley for another term.”

The Montgomery Advertiser also applauded Gov. Riley’s record and his bold vision.  Their editorial board stated, “When Gov. Bob Riley asks Alabamians to return him to office for four more years, he can point to a very good record during his first term as justification.  Riley has every right to be proud of his first term as governor.”  The board goes on to say, “Riley has issued a detailed, thoughtful and aggressive plan for a new term called “Plan 2010: Our Vision for Alabama.”

Governor Riley has also received endorsements from the Decatur Daily and Tuscaloosa News, the Daily Home, the Anniston Star and the Gadsden Times.
